Patrick Javillier, Meursault

“Javillier is a passionate seeker after truth (or, in this case, perfection) working each barrel differently in a constant series of trials to see what works best. He has little in the way of grand land, but he is a real master. ”

No one else can take you for a walk through Meursault like Patrick Javillier. Tasting through his wines with him requires the utmost concentration. No flip little asides like, "C'est bon," are going to fly with this perfectionist. He has lived with every wine intimately, thought it through, and conducted every imaginable experiment with each one to extract its absolute essense.

Meursault growers are blessed with a lower water table than Puligny, for example, so their wine cellars are deeper. Deeper means cooler, cooler means longer fermentations and more complete, integrated wine.

QUICK FACTS:

  • Javillier's focus on single-vineyard bottlings is exciting; his wines are the best way to discover the various terroirs of Meursault.

  • His Bourgogne Blanc "Cuvée des Forgets" Cuvée Speciale is very dense and rich; it can be considered a "baby" Meursault.

  • Javillier's Meursault "Les Tillets" Cuvée Speciale is a rare wine, and we are often only able to secure one barrel for import. It is not to be missed!

  • While Javillier's Meursault "Clos du Cromin" is fresh and lively in its youth, his "Les Narvaux" is slower to develop, and is a gem for the cellar.

  • The cuvee Meursault "Tête de Murgers" Cuvée Speciale is a combination of two Meursault vineyards: "Casse-Tête" which contributes a nervous, mineral verve, and "Murgers" for body.

  • Javillier's Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru hails from a well-placed south-facing parcel in this exemplary cru. An unforgettable wine.
