Vintners

Vincent Dureuil, Rully

Vincent Dureuil in the vineyard

“His love of the soil, the education he received from his winemaking father, and his studies at oenological school in Beaune have given Vincent an insatiable urge to make wines with lots of finesse, complexity and richness...This is a young man to watch very carefully.”

Even though Rully is less than 10 miles away from Meursault, it might as well be 1,000 miles in terms of quality. Most Rully winemakers see no problem with high yields, dirty barrels, or extra sulfur.

Then, thankfully, there are winemakers such as Vincent Dureuil. This young winemaker seeks to craft a Rully wine that matches Montrachet in grandeur and opulence. Not only is Dureuil a very talented winemaker, he is also blessed with some impressive vineyard sites that boast very old vines and silex-rich soils. His delicate touch, even at such a young age, is able to translate each individual terroir into a perfect liquid picture of what Rully wines can—and should—be.

The magic in Rully started with the 1995 vintage and a Rully 1er Cru "Le Meix Cadot." If we didn’t look at the label at the time, we would have thought we were drinking a “baby” Montrachet. Dureuil's expertise has increased exponentially with every vintage. He is a demon in the vineyards, pruning mercilessly to keep yields very low.

QUICK FACTS:

  • Dureuil, at a young age, is already one of the better winemakers in the Côte Chalonnaise; he is a superb taster, and an innovative artisan whose wines improve every year.

  • Dureuil tends many old vines in his vineyards; soils are rich with silex and rocks. He performs diligent vineyard work, which results in very low yields.
