Domaine Eric Boigelot
Monthelie | Côte de Beaune | BurgundyWinemaker Charles Boigelot is the fourth generation of his family to champion the terroir treasures of the Burgundy village of Monthelie. Nestled between the ruddy elegance of Volnay and the nutty intensity of Meursault, Monthelie just may be the Côte de Beaune’s best-kept secret, a source of mineral-rich whites and soulful reds in equal measure.
With some 22 acres of excellent vineyards in Monthelie, Meursault and Volnay, Charles–who took over winemaking duties from his father Eric in 2022–is a young talent already making serious waves in greater Burgundy.
Charles honed his skills at both Domaine Paul Pillot and neighboring Coche-Dury, following in the footsteps of his father, who did the same (and a good portion of the family’s grapes for years were sold to this historic Meursault estate).
This family has long had its wine-stained fingers on the pulse of the Côte de Beaune. Charles’ great-great-grandfather, with some five acres of land, was the first of the family to plant vines in Monthelie in 1918. From father to son, the family expanded its holdings in Monthelie, Meursault, Volnay and Pommard until Eric Boigelot, in the late 1990s, moved to new cellars to Meursault, just over the village border.
With 25 acres of vineyards cared for sustainably, Charles is ably following in the footsteps of his winemaking kin by crafting silky, expressive wines that deliver serious pleasure right out of the gate.
FARMING & WINEMAKING
The family tends its 22 acres of vineyards in Monthelie, Meursault, Volnay and Pommard sustainably, and carries a certification HVE3 (Haute Valeur Environnementale), which ensures that vines and soils are cared for as naturally as possible, treatments are minimal and that biodiversity is protected.
All grapes are harvested by hand in small crates, and fermentation is carried out on indigenous yeasts. Whites are fermented either in temperature-controlled tanks or French oak barrel, then aged in barrel and in tank. Reds are destemmed, fermented in tank and aged in barrel and tank. Wines are lightly filtered before bottling.
Monthélie Blanc 'Les Champs Ronds'
‘Les Champs Ronds’ is a small, east-facing parcel that sits on the valley floor near the medieval village of Monthelie, downslope from premier cru ‘Les Clous.’ A silky, round white Burgundy with energy and citrus kick to spare.

Meursault 'Les Clous'
‘Les Clous’ sits at altitude on a hillside facing east, near the forest line. Here Meursault’s buttery majesty meets a higher-altitude energy for a white Burgundy with plenty of ripe white fruit and nutty nuance.

Meursault 'Les Petits Charrons'
‘Les Petits Charrons’ sits on the plain near the village of Meursault. Soils mix clay and marl, with some red, iron-rich soils similar to ‘Rougeots’ upslope. A plush and welcoming white Burgundy, with golden charms and citrus to share.

Monthélie Rouge 'Les Hauts Brins'
‘Les Hauts Brins’ sits at the border with Volnay, at the top of a plateau facing south. Near the forest, this plot (neighboring premier cru vineyards) is cooler, with thin topsoil and hard limestone subsoils. There’s no mistaking this red Burgundy’s Volnay energy, with translucent rubied fruit and spice; yet the suave charms and sweet red fruit of Monthelie can’t resist taking center stage.

Monthélie Rouge 'La Massale'
A tribute to the grand terroirs of Monthelie and an overachieving wine crafted with a majority of premier cru fruit. Pinot Noir here comes from three distinct, quality parcels in the village, all bordering Volnay. Premier cru ‘La Meix Bataille’ sits at the top of a plateau, with deeper marly soils; premier cru ‘Sur la Velle’ directly borders Volnay 1er ‘Clos des Chênes.’ ‘La Piece Fitte’ (or Pierrefittes) neighbors both and is higher up on the slope, near the forest line.

Monthélie Rouge 1er Cru 'Clou des Chênes'
At the top of a plateau, ‘Clou des Chênes’ faces full south and borders Volnay ‘Ez Blanches,’ Here less topsoil and more limestone is present. A riveting, structured red Burgundy made for the long haul.

Volnay 1er Cru 'Santenots'
‘Santenots’ lies within the borders of Meursault, but is almost exclusively planted to Pinot Noir (thus labeled Volnay). Soils are rich in clay and limestone; the vineyard faces southeast on a gradual slope. One of the grand terroirs of Volnay, and a treasure for the cellar.
