Musella Amarone Gets Top Marks With Wine & Spirits

Apr 1, 2019

It should come as no surprise that our biodynamic partners in the Veneto, Azienda Agricola Musella, have again received top mentions in the wine press for their stunning Amarone and Ripasso wines. Here are some notes from Wine & Spirits Magazine’s February 2019 edition.

2011 Musella Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva IN STOCK
The Musella estate lies just five miles east of Verona in Valpolicella Classico’s southernmost section. Red clay soils predominated here, and the estate’s Demeter-certifed vineyard plots are nestled on hilltops surrounded by thick forests. Yields were down in the warm and dry 2011 vintage but quality was good, allowing winemaker Enrico Raber to produce a voluptuous riserva. It tastes of blackberry and plum laced with licorice and sweet spice, picking up earthy savory notes of dried leaves and apple skins that balance the ripe fruit.

2012 Musella Amarone della Valpolicella (best buy) IN STOCK
Winemaker Enrico Raber changed his usual blend in 2012, dropping the amount of tannic oseleta in favor of corvinone, and aged the wine in large oak casks and cement tanks. The result is fresh and vivacious, with red cherry flavors and enticing floral scents.

2015 Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore (best buy) PRE ARRIVAL (more coming)
Musella’s 2015 ripasso hits all the right notes, bursting with scents of pink petals and flavors of fresh cherry and mulberry. The fruit seems perfectly ripe, enlivened by notes of licorice and spice and framed by velvety tannins. Its a refreshing ripasso that calls for a second glass.
