From Frasca: The Tastemaker Dinners at Frasca Food and Wine are designed to connect guests to the wine they love, and introduce them to some of the greatest producers in our industry. What better way to do so than to share a meal with the winemaker, while enjoying the very wines they make?
Fratelli Alessandria has been one of the leading family wineries producing ethereal Nebbiolo from the sandstone vineyards of their home vineyards in the most northern vineyards of Barolo in the province of Verduno since the mid 19th century.
Winemaker Vittore has a keen sense of not only Nebbiolo, but of the vineyards he owns and works in. The gentle northern slopes of Verduno is where the Alpine winds enter the region of Barolo, and intensify as they head further south towards the more dramatic, fierce slopes of Serralunga and cliffs of Monforte.
The esteemed vineyard of Monvigliero, arguably the reason the commune of Verduno has suddenly become on the radar of Barolo lovers, lies in the center of Verduno. The wide reaching slope is of grand cru status in the eyes of most great producers in Barolo – many outside of the commune of Verduno have jumped to buy a tiny parcel to bottle their own Monvigliero wine in recent years, from Scavino to Vietti. Alessandria’s plot of Monvigliero is more significant and more well situated than any, which is no surprise for those who have enjoyed the wine.
The wines of Alessandria are striking and hedonistic for lovers of Barolo. We are thrilled to have winemaker Vittore Alessandria at Frasca for an intimate dinner for the first time.
We will start with canapes and Egly Ouriet Champagne, then move into a six course dinner from chefs Kelly and Eduardo to pair with 2016 Barbera d’Alba Superiore Priora, 2015 Barolo, 2015 Barolo “Gramolere”, 2015 “Monvigliero”, 2008 “Monvigliero” and 1995 “Monvigliero”.
