Casoni

Finale Romagna | Emilia-Romagna
Considered one of Italy’s oldest distilleries, Casoni was born in 1814 and early successes allowed Giuseppe Casoni, son of the founder, to open a shop in the village of Finale Emilia in 1853. Successive generations racked up awards at national and international exhibitions and grew this once-modest operation into a fabbrica and distilleria of serious dimension. In 1964, fifth-generation owner Mario Casoni kicked off a period of expansion and international growth that put the company in the top rank of Italian distilleries.

Mario’s grandson, Paolo Molinari, has recently spearheaded efforts to re-energize this historically important brand and its iconic range of aperitivi and amaro—L’Aperitivo 1814, Il Bitter 1814, Vermouths and Amaro Heritage—prioritizing sustainable production: 100% of the energy used by the Casoni fabbrica comes from renewable sources, including about a third generated by solar panels installed at the facility itself. In 2023, Casoni received the Forbes Sustainability Award, which ranked it among Italy’s Top 100 most sustainable companies.

Casoni still operates in its original headquarters outside Modena, in Emilia-Romagna, and continues to lead in its categories with its use of low sugar amounts (especially for Amaro and Aperitivo), in-house production of proprietary infusions, and small-batch natural aroma extractions and manual selection and quality control over core raw materials, as well as its respect for historical recipes — all perfected by applying modern technology and matching the highest quality certifications.
