Paesani Liquori

Collevecchio | Abruzzo

Run by the same family since 1961, the Paesani family fabbrica is perched on a hillside in the hamlet of Collevecchio, with the highest peak in the Apennine Mountains, the Gran Sasso d’Italia, as its backdrop and namesake. Antonio Paesani, and now Antonio’s son Mirco, painstakingly hand-craft their award-winning lineup of amari and other liqueurs in this stunning pastoral Abruzzo setting.

Founding brothers Ermanno and Pietro Paesani were skilled foragers and craftsmen whose original recipe and production process for Amaro Gran Sasso is still followed to the letter today. Amaro Gran Sasso, a beautifully balanced infusion incorporating more than 20 botanicals, is the Paesani flagship, but in all, this is a treasure trove of artisanal creations, including Genziana (a delicately bitter Gentian Root liqueur), and a decadent, viscous Liquirizia (licorice liqueur).

LIQUEURS

Amaro Gran Sasso

Traditional amaro crafted according to a 60+-year-old family recipe. More than 20 botanicals, including gentian root, quinine bark, rhubarb, cardamom, imperatoria (a white-flowered plant in the carrot family), vanilla, centaurea (mountain bluet) and orange peel, are cold-macerated in grain neutral spirits, then pressed by hand. Colored/sweetened only with caramelized sugar (no artificial colorings or flavorings are used). The recipe and production methodology have remained unchanged since 1961!
